Background:
On June 23, 2014 the Ottawa Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) approved the use of Proceeds of Disposition as a component of funding the reconstruction of the Broadview Avenue Public School building, in accordance with the terms of the Ministry of Education funding approvals.

Due to the complexity of this project, Tiree Project Managers was selected through a Request for Proposal in June 2014 to act as Project Managers. In July, through a similar process, an Architect firm was selected – Edward J. Cuhaci Architects.

The concept for the project is to build the new school on the south end of the property, facing Dovercourt Avenue, while the old school remains operational and occupied. Once the new school is ready for use the students and staff will move in and the old school will be demolished and the grounds reinstated.

The Architect firm and their consultants have been working with the OCDSB Design Committee to develop an initial schematic design for the new school. The early concepts of the design have been presented to the Build a Better Broadview Committee, the School Council and school staff to solicit their feedback and comments on the design concept. The concept to date is to build a 2 storey school (approximately 75,000 square feet and 83 parking spots).

The present schedule is to go through the design, site application, tendering and approval processes so that construction can start early next spring. It will take approximately one year to build the school and have it ready for occupancy for September 2016. Once completed, the demolition phase will commence and reinstatement of the grounds which will be complete by the summer of 2017.
